Ohio Man, 81, Charged with Murder After Shooting Black Uber Driver

Authorities have charged 81-year-old William Brock of Ohio with the murder of an Uber driver, believing she was involved in a fraudulent scheme, according to reports.

Lt. Kristopher Shultz of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office explained the situation, stating that Brock received scam calls claiming a family member was in custody and demanding a large sum for their release. The calls escalated to ransom demands, leading to the tragic events of March 25.

According to Shultz, the scammer arranged for an Uber to pick up supposed ransom money from Brock’s home. When Loletha Hall arrived and approached Brock’s door, he armed himself, confiscated her phone, and prevented her from leaving.

“When she attempted to flee, he shot her once. There was further interaction between them,” Shultz stated. “Brock sustained a head injury at some point, leading to a second shot. After further dialogue, he fired a third time before contacting authorities.”

Despite being unarmed and posing no threat, Hall succumbed to her injuries at a hospital. Brock pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and kidnapping, posting a $200,000 bond. He could face 15 years to life imprisonment if convicted.

An Uber spokesperson expressed condolences, describing the incident as a “horrific tragedy” and extending sympathy to Hall’s loved ones.
