Bishop T.D. Jakes Opens Up About “Emergency Surgery” Following Health Scare During Sermon

Bishop T.D. Jakes, 67, has shared an update on his health following a medical emergency that occurred last week. Speaking to his congregation via livestream during Sunday service (Dec. 1), the senior pastor of The Potter’s House of Dallas expressed gratitude and optimism.

“I’m so delighted to see you. I’m grateful for God’s faithfulness. I’m grateful for your faithfulness. I’m grateful for this season in my life,” Jakes began. “I told you last Sunday that I’d see you this Sunday, and so here I am.”

The renowned preacher revealed he will take “a few weeks to heal, recover, relax, and reflect” as advised by medical professionals.

The health scare happened during a church service when Jakes paused mid-sermon, shook, and dropped the microphone, prompting immediate medical attention. Reflecting on the incident, he shared, “It was quiet, and it was peaceful, and I was cradled.”

In a statement issued by The Potter’s House, the church confirmed that Jakes was in stable condition and under medical supervision, expressing gratitude for the community’s love, prayers, and support.

Jakes further opened up about the seriousness of the situation, saying, “Many of you don’t realize that you’re looking at a miracle. I faced a life-threatening calamity. I was rushed to the ICU and underwent emergency surgery.”

Despite the ordeal, Bishop Jakes remains steadfast in his faith, thanking God for his mercy and the opportunity to continue serving his congregation.
