Officer Ken Johnson found guilty of murder in the shooting death of 16-year old Jose Cruz
According to WFFA A jury has found a former Farmers Branch officer guilty of murder in the shooting death of a 16-year-old teen.
In March 2016, Ken Johnson chased down two teens while off duty after he said they broke into his vehicle at his apartment complex in Addison.
Surveillance video showed Johnson bump the suspects’ Dodge Charger with his SUV, which caused the vehicle to spin out. Johnson then exited his SUV and shot Edgar Rodriguez and Jose Cruz, who were both unarmed.
Rodriguez survived but Cruz was killed by the gunfire.
According to DallasMorningNews Johnson, who had been out on bond, was taken into custody after the verdict was read Tuesday. He faces up to life in prison, and court records show he plans to ask for probation. The sentencing trial will begin Jan. 8.
