“Grammy-Winning Singer and ‘American Idol’ Star Mandisa Passes Away at 47”

Mandisa, recognized for her participation in “American Idol,” has died at the age of 47. Mandisa Hundley, a California native, passed away at her residence in Nashville, Tennessee, on Thursday (April 18).

Hundley rose to prominence during the fifth season of the popular reality television show “American Idol” in 2006.

Her audition for “American Idol” in 2005 garnered attention from judges and viewers alike due to her impressive voice and engaging personality.

Throughout her time on “American Idol,” Mandisa garnered praise for her soulful performances of various songs, amassing a dedicated fan base and earning recognition from the judges. Although she finished in the top nine, her stint on the show served as a launchpad for her music career.

Post-“American Idol,” Mandisa found success in the Christian music scene. In 2007, she released her debut album, “True Beauty,” which debuted at number one on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart. The album was acclaimed for its positive messages and strong vocals, with its lead single, “Only the World,” becoming a chart-topper, solidifying Mandisa’s position in Christian music.

Her subsequent albums, including “Freedom” (2009), “What If We Were Real” (2011), and “Out of the Dark” (2017), showcased her versatility and earned her numerous accolades, including a Grammy and Dove award.

The cause of death has not been disclosed.
