Dez Bryant dealing with hairline fracture in right knee

Dez Bryant is dealing with a hairline fracture to his right knee and Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett told reporters he’s hopeful the team’s star wide receiver will play Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

Speaking to reporters on a conference call Wednesday, Garrett confirmed Bryant’s injury and described his timetable for return as “day-to-day,” “week-to-week.”

The Cowboys receiver suffered the injury Sunday night against the Bears. Earlier, Garrett would not say when Bryant underwent his MRI, according to NFL Network’s Jane Slater.

The tweaked knee was a horrifying moment for the Cowboys, given the awkward nature of his landing. Bryant returned to the game shortly after and later hauled in the first career touchdown pass thrown by quarterback Dak Prescott. On that play — a double move quick slant over the middle — there did not seem to be any lingering side effects from the first-quarter fall, but knee pain and soreness can always get worse. The Cowboys take on the 1-2 49ers on Sunday.

Given the monstrous efforts put forward by Prescott and rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott, this seems like a game that Dallas could sneak away with while Bryant sits on the training table — a move that could afford the veteran star wideout a much needed week of rest before a grueling stretch of games against the Bengals, Packers and Eagles. So far this year, Bryant has 11 catches for 150 yards and one touchdown
