Democrat Rev. Raphael Warnock came out victorious in Tuesday’s Georgia U.S. Senate runoff races against incumbent Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler.
A winner has not yet been declared in Georgia’s other runoff race between Warnock’s Democratic colleague Jon Ossoff and incumbent Sen. David Perdue, however, Ossoff lead continues to widen.
Warnock’s victory and Ossoff’s possible wins in the Peach State would be a major victory for Democrats, giving the party a majority in the U.S. Senate, effectively sidelining Republicans and giving the Democratic Party full control of both chambers of Congress.
The new majority in the Senate and the current majority in the U.S. House of Representatives would also clear the path for Democrats President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and their legislative agenda for the next two years.
