Man Accused of Driving at 260 mph in Dallas Crash That Killed Woman

A guy is facing serious charges for stealing a car from a gas station, causing a crash that killed a woman who got thrown out of the car. This all went down early Sunday morning, according to the Dallas Police.

The tragic incident happened around 12:50 a.m. on Murdock Road. Cops rushed to the Pleasant Grove neighborhood after hearing about a kidnapping and a big crash. When they got there, they found Karen Mariela Cardona lying in the road with bad injuries. Darion Thomas, 26, was also nearby.

Paramedics tried to save Cardona, but she died from her injuries.

Dallas Police revealed on Monday that they thought it was a carjacking at first, but it turned out Thomas stole the car when some people stopped at the gas station.

Thomas said he saw two people go into the gas station, leaving their car running with Cardona in the back. He admitted to stealing it. When Cardona realized what was happening, she yelled at him, and he drove crazily, allegedly hitting about 260 mph before crashing into a pole a mile away. Both Thomas and Cardona got thrown out.

A witness heard the crash and went to help. They found Cardona dead and Thomas injured.

Thomas was arrested and taken to the hospital. He’s charged with murder and theft.

Surveillance video from a neighbor’s doorbell camera showed the stolen car speeding down Murdock Road before crashing.

The aftermath of the crash was horrifying for witnesses, especially when they found out Cardona was an innocent victim.

Neighbors said car thefts and speeding drivers have been a problem in the area. Some hope for justice after this tragic crash.

Cardona had only been in Dallas for a year, supporting her daughters back in Honduras.

Thomas is in jail on a $1,005,000 bond.
