Cops shoot dead double-amputee trying to hobble away on his stumps

 A double amputee was shot and killed by police officers as he tried to hobble away on his stumps after jumping off his wheelchair.

Anthony Lowe Jr, 36, a father-of-two, was shot at least eight times by three Huntington Park police officers in California on Thursday.

Lowe stabbed another individual unprovoked, according to cops.

Video footage shows Lowe on the ground behind his wheelchair, and trying to run away from two police officers on his stumps.

The cops first try to Tase Lowe and chase him on the sidewalk. Lowe holds a large butcher’s knife in one hand as he attempts to escape.

Then a second police car arrives at the scene and a third cop joins in the pursuit. About 15 seconds later, the officers fire multiple shots and strike Lowe in his upper torso.

The cops handcuff Lowe as he lies on his stomach on the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police officers Tased Lowe ‘at least twice’, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office, ‘but the deployment of the Taser was ineffective’.

Lt Hugo Reynaga confirmed that Lowe was shot ‘around 10 times’.

‘He tried to run away, and every time he turned around and did the motion like he was gonna throw the knife at him, they Tased him,’ said Reynaga. ‘They were trying to give this guy the less-lethal Taser shock. And because it was ineffective, they had to go to something that was more effective.’

Cops involved in the shooting have not been named. They are expected to be in the coming days, according to Reynaga.

The officers have been placed on leave for a few days and will undergo psychiatric evaluations.
