This past Wednesday morning Denton County Sheriff’s Office came to the home of the Levy Family with a warrant for 25 yr. old, Devin Levy. The mother, Darchel Levy answered the door and asked the officers, who were out of uniform, what they needed. A reply was given stating they had a warrant for Devin in their possession, whereas Mrs. Darcel rebutted with he was not present, and she was home alone. She would later on attempt to contact him by phone, but despite her efforts, Devin didn’t answer her call. Subsequently, as a backup measure, she tried to contact a different son 3 times to find Devin’s location but was unsuccessful.
Within moments of her failed attempts, the officers heard noises that were interpreted as someone moving in the back of the house. They shoved Ms. Darcel to the side and proceeded to search the house without authorization. At this time, Ms. Levy’s uncomfortable position, became heightened with fear as the officers became rude in demeanor and conduct. Immediately following the officer’s unauthorized entrance, the second son she attempted to contact earlier (not Devin), came out of a room in the back of the house. However, Ms. Levy pleaded that she was not aware he was there, due to her being home alone when she originally went to sleep.
After engaging in a verbal dispute with the officers, Mrs. Levy called her sister and pastor, who later advised to allow the officers to search her home. To her surprise, after finally giving the authorization they originally sought from her, the officers noted a decrease in their level of security while in the home without backup and made a decision to wait upon the arrival of such before finishing. They also noted that if her son Devin was in the home, she would be taken to jail and charged with “hindering apprehension of a felon”.
Once back-up arrived, the search continued, and they found Devyn sleep in a room. As a result, the officers arrested Mrs. Darchel along with her son Devin. Mrs. Darcel was held in custody for a duration of 12 hours while being denied medical treatment and medicine for her cancer. The Next Generation Action Network is asking the community to join our efforts in demanding all charges being dropped against Mrs. Darchel Mason Levy.
